Letter From the Editor

February 17, 2011

Thank you for visiting.  I invite you to read and comment on anything posted on this blog.

I am June Melton, III, professional engineer, long time structural, civil and architectural engineering designer; former CEO of several engineering and construction companies; consultant expert witness and engineering investigator extraordinaire (at least that’s what my friends and some lawyers tell me).

I include the suffix “III” after my name in honor my father who, like his father, named me as he did because he loved me.  A similar story of fatherly love was told by the late, great Johnny Cash in the ballad “A Boy Named Sue.”  In actuality, it was my great grandmother who happened to be a women’s rights activist (suffragette) and who, without telling my great grandfather, secretly changed my grandfather’s name at the courthouse from Thomas Jefferson to Thomas June.  Things then moved downhill from there.

I am the editor-in-chief of ENGR101.COM and I wanted to tell you what this site is all about.   First, it’s about fighting, but not the same type of fighting described by Johnny Cash.  It’s about professional engineers fighting for public safety, fighting to design structures that don’t knock down or don’t explode and sink into the Gulf of Mexico causing environmental havoc.

It’s about fighting the wrongs that exist in daily life, particularly the corruption that most of us now witness routinely, particularly in business and government.

It’s about fighting on behalf of individuals and homebuyers and small homebuilders, who are routinely swindled by deceptive construction trade standards and legal manipulations that get them into trouble.

It’s about fighting for our liberties, with good lawyers if necessary who know the difference between right and wrong, winning and losing, and the corruptive influence of money and power.

It’s about teaching things that you should know. For example, I have recently authored “The Mysterious Adventures of Marshal Yeager, Professional Engineer, Book 1 – In the Matter of Sandra Bullock’s House, Governor Rick Perry, and Corruption at the Texas Board of Professional Engineers,” a “fiction-based-loosely-on-fact” story about the loss of the right to trial by jury and the ongoing threats to our freedom of speech. The book is advertised on this site. Watch in the future for Book 2.

I am also completing the final portions of another book, which includes what I saw happen to my old former buddy former President George W. Bush in Midland, Texas in 1983; and why I believe that many people correctly held the impression that he was not really running the country. Since I had known the man well in Midland since childhood, and I was also an elected Republican precinct delegate in central Texas at a time during his presidency, I was rarely publicly critical of President Bush — either leading up to, or during, his entire term in office. But his recent book, “Decision Points,” reflects what I contend is an unfortunate effort to recreate the history of his administration for future generations to read.

Most egregious to me about his book, is what he refuses to admit to — his fear of exposing the true “enemy within” — the beast that had garnered his support in 1983 — the same beast that now has the nation gripped in debt and potential economic chaos. It was this enemy that weakened Bush and his presidency, rendering him incapable of honoring his pledge to insure the survival of our United States Constitution and the survival of United States’ citizens as a free people.

Another writer has noted that by 1983, even President Reagan had recognized the nature of the beast — Reagan threatened to send in the U.S. Marines — but Reagan, like Bush after him, succumbed to the evil as well. Otherwise, Reagan would not have been reelected — a weak excuse when the security of the nation is in jeopardy.

As to President Obama, he showed early signs of being more than willing to succumb to the same forces, only months before he was even on the nation’s radar screen to displace U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries. Within two years, Obama has given away an additional 25 percent of the national treasury in the form of debt.

My new book is based on fact and names several well known people. I personally witnessed the events that transpired involving Bush in Midland. Many people lost their fortunes, suffered and died as a result of the secret war against the citizens of the United States, but that war was only regional. George W. Bush was going to become president and nothing would stand in his way. Now the war is national and international as well.

Much of the book is based on my affidavit to the U.S. Congress in 2008. Watch this site for further information; plus watch the publisher’s site at www.MartinAndByrdBooks.com; and also www.Amazon.com for further details.

Back to this site: It’s also about teaching things to architect-interns, licensed architects, other professional engineers, homebuyers, homebuilders and others interested in architecture, engineering and construction.  In particular, with regard to the architect-interns, we will soon be transferring to this site an updated version of the highly-sought-after Structures Video Seminar, in order to assist you to prepare for the Structures and Lateral Load sections of the Architect Registration Exam.

It’s about teaching things that people do not learn in college or from the newspapers or watching TV.  We have a staff that digs deep, and Governor Rick Perry of Texas is certainly one politician we have our eyes on.

And for you homeowners and prospective homebuyers, we will be teaching you how to avoid many of the traps that await you when you either buy or sell your house.  For most people, buying a home is the largest purchase they will ever make in their lives.  I am a professional engineer who gets involved in such matters and I see considerable heartbreak and loss — enough to make me want to do whatever I can to try to help you.  I can admit to becoming very inspired to do this as a result of my work in leading the investigative team concerning the poor quality construction of Sandra Bullock’s house in Austin in the early 2000s.  I saw how Sandra Bullock fought her own builder with a stated determination to do what she could to inspire other homeowners to seek redress in the courts, and I saw the equally determined defendants do whatever they could to make her mission as financially expensive on her as possible.  Unfortunately, since the time of the trial (that she won), constitutional access to the courts for other aggrieved homeowners has been blocked in Texas as a result of the questionable actions of Texas Governor Rick Perry and the Perry Administration’s ham-handed manipulation of Texas state agencies in the name of “tort-reform.”

We appreciate comments, good and bad.  Just please keep it polite and respectable.  The only people we discriminate against are politicians.
